Equipment Maintenance Technician

$22.00 per hour | $250 Sign-On Bonus | Full-time; Monday - Friday; 7:00 am 4:00 pm

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision and reporting to the Warehouse Manager, the Equipment Maintenance Technician is responsible for the routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of floor sanding and finishing equipment. This includes but is not limited to drum and orbital sanders, edgers, buffers, multi-phase switches, and various tools used in the preparation, repair, sanding, and finishing of wood floors. In some cases, the technician may also operate the equipment to support workflow needs.

The technician ensures all machinery complies with industry standards and safety regulations while also working to enhance equipment reliability, performance, and efficiency. This is an onsite, locally based role at Praters, Inc., located in Rossville, GA.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair issues with floor sanding and finishing equipment by performing routine maintenance and replacing worn or damaged components to ensure maximum lifespan and reliability. This includes work on mechanical, electrical, and occasionally pneumatic systems.
  • As needed, set up and operate floor sanding equipment, ensuring proper calibration, functionality, and adherence to safety standards prior to use.
  • Coordinate timely service and repairs for all Praters Inc. equipment to minimize downtime and prevent delays in project completion.
  • Safety Always assess potential hazards and risks before beginning any task. Prioritize a proactive mindset by identifying and addressing unsafe conditions. Immediately report any unsafe actions or situations to management to help maintain a safe working environment for all.
  • Ensure all equipment is used safely and in compliance with all health and safety regulations and protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities, as well as inventory of stored equipment and frequently used parts and supplies for equipment repairs.
  • Report unresolved equipment issues to management promptly, including any anticipated costs for major repairs or potential replacements.
  • Occasional travel to customer sites or designated locations to perform repairs or deliver replacement parts and equipment as needed. All travel and deliveries must be coordinated with Operations Management and communicated through the Warehouse Manager.
  • Collaborate effectively with experienced wood flooring professionals, carpenters, and other skilled tradespeople, both internally and externally.
  • Actively engage in internal and external training opportunities to continuously enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities, ensuring the Equipment Maintenance Technician stays current with the latest equipment technologies, repair methods, and safety standards.
  • Ability to assist in training others on basic equipment maintenance tasks, such as emptying sander bags and cleaning vacuums during and after use.
  • Keep the equipment room clean and free of debris.
  • Operate lift trucks as needed on an occasional basis.
  • Accurately complete and submit all required paperwork, such as sales invoices, credit card/ fuel receipts, and purchase documentation, on time.
  • Weekend work and overtime may be required.
  • Will always conduct himself or herself as a representative of Praters, Inc. and support the companys missions and goals.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and business ethics codes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS NEEDED:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2 3 years of prior equipment maintenance experience.
  • Solid understanding of how machines operate, including mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and accurately identify the root cause of the problem.
  • Proficient in using a wide range of tools and repair techniques to service and maintain floor sanding and finishing equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and industry best practices for operating and maintaining sanding and finishing equipment.
  • Strong communication skills for clearly discussing equipment issues with both colleagues, vendors, and clients.
  • Ability to stand, bend, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods, including lifting and maneuvering objects weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Highly organized and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be 21 years old or older
  • Valid drivers license and Clean MVR
  • DOT Medical Card or the ability to obtain a Medical Card
